Introduction

You are invited to take part in a research study about the innovation and delivery skills of entrepreneurs who self-identify as having dyslexia. This study is being conducted by Stanley Gloss as part of the requirements for a doctoral degree at Southern New Hampshire University. Before you decide to participate, it is important to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve.

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this study is to examine patterns in innovation and delivery skills among entrepreneurs with self-reported dyslexia. The research uses the Innovator’s DNA (IDNA) assessment (Dyer et al., 2019) to measure these skills and explore whether distinctive strengths are present within this population. This study does not compare individuals with and without dyslexia. Instead, it focuses on identifying skill patterns that may be linked to the lived experiences of entrepreneurs with dyslexia.

Why You Have Been Invited

You are being asked to participate because:

  • You are an adult entrepreneur who self-identifies as having dyslexia (either through formal diagnosis or self-reported persistent reading, spelling, or writing challenges since childhood)
  • You have founded and led a commercial or nonprofit organization for at least two years
  • You have at least five years of total professional experience
Procedures

If you agree to participate, you will:

  • Complete two self-report screening questions to confirm eligibility.
  • Complete the Innovator’s DNA (IDNA) online assessment, which measures innovation-related discovery skills and delivery-related execution skills.

The total estimated time for participation is 30–45 minutes. All participation will take place online, and you may complete the assessment at a time and place that is convenient for you.

Voluntary Participation

Participation in this study is completely voluntary. You may choose not to participate or to stop at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled.

Potential Risks

There are minimal risks to participation. Some individuals may experience mild discomfort when reflecting on personal abilities or work experiences. You may skip any question that you do not wish to answer.

Potential Benefits

While there is no guaranteed personal benefit, you may gain insights into your innovation and delivery skills from your IDNA results. The study may also contribute to greater understanding of how cognitive strengths associated with dyslexia can be leveraged in entrepreneurial contexts.

Confidentiality

Your responses will be kept confidential to the extent allowed by law. Data will be collected and stored on secure, password-protected systems. Your name and identifying information will not appear in any publications or presentations. Data will be reported in aggregate form so that individual participants cannot be identified.

Data Security

All data will be stored on encrypted devices or secure cloud storage approved by [Your Institution]. Only the principal investigator and authorized research advisors will have access to the data. Data will be retained for 3 years in accordance with institutional policy and then securely destroyed.

Compensation

There is no monetary compensation for participation. You will receive your personalized IDNA results at no cost (a value of approximately $275), which may provide insights into your entrepreneurial thinking and skills.
